The index of 30 shares was up 118 points at 11,002 by midday while Hewlett-Packard soared 10 per cent after posting higher-than-expected quarterly income figures on Wednesday after the markets closed.
Agilent Technologies, which was spun off from HP, jumped to $46 from its initial public offering price of $30.
