Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Independent on Sunday: Bupa is 'taking the micky', angry patients tell inquiry

Bupa patients have attacked the medical insurer during a Competition Commission probe into the £5bn private healthcare industry. The investigation is looking into whether the dominance of just five private-sector hospital operators – General Healthcare Group, Nuffield Health Hospitals, Ramsay HealthCare UK, Spire Healthcare and HCA – distorts competition.

The Sunday Times: Tycoons plot to grab ENRC on the cheap

The three tycoons behind a possible bid for FTSE 100 mining giant ENRC, are examining a plan to take it off the stock market for a small cash payment. Alexander Mashkevitch said last week that he and co-founders, Patokh Chodiev and Alijan Ibragimov, were considering a bid for the troubled £3.7bn miner. Shares have halved in the past year amid a SFO probe into alleged corruption.

The Mail on Sunday: Power giants 'hide profits to dodge price controls'

Power companies may be hiding their profits and understating how much they make from consumers, a senior MP warned this weekend. Shadow energy secretary Caroline Flint has written to Tim Yeo, chairman of the Energy and Climate Change Committee, to warn accounting methods could be obscuring how much energy groups earn from UK households, making it harder for Ofgem to regulate pricing.

The Sunday Telegraph: Stop 'ridiculous' Heathrow price hikes, says Walsh

The chief executive of International Airlines Group, owner of British Airways, has hit out at proposals to increase landing charges at Heathrow by 6 per cent above the rate of inflation. Willie Walsh said the proposals by Heathrow Airport Holdings would only serve the interests of shareholders. Heathrow is 37 per cent-owned by the Spanish infrastructure investor Ferrovial.
