After months of anticipation, Apple yesterday unveiled the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

And, of course, pretty much everyone had something to say about the latest development from the Silicon Valley giant.

"Today we are pleased to announced the biggest advancement in iPhone," Apple CEO Tim Cook told the audience at the Flint center in Cupertino, California, on Tuesday.

He added: "iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest advancements in iPhone history.

"The iPhone is the most loved smartphone in the world with the highest customer satisfaction in the industry and we are making it much better in every way. Only Apple can combine the best hardware, software and services at this unprecedented level and we think customers are going to love it."

Soon, Twitter was awash with initial reactions, including from some of the world's leading business leaders. Here's a snapshot of what they thought.

Just to confirm how great the iPhone 6 is, Cook went on to tweet from the newfangled device.

Meanwhile, business magnate Rupert Murdoch praised Apple's creativity and innovation.

Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington took a more practical view of things.

Target executive Jeff Jones was thrilled to see the company get a mention at one of the biggest events of the year.

And Scott Monty, an executive at Shift Communications, was more interested in the cultural ramifications of the Apple Watch.

The there was Altimeter Group founder Charlene Li, who did a good job of reminding us all just how obsessed we are with technology.

iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch display, while iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display, both coming with a new Retina HD screen made with ion-strengthened cover glass and available in gold, silver and space gray colours.

Pre-orders start on 12 September, though the devices officially arrive on 19 September in the USA, France, Hong Kong, Canada, Germany, Singapore, the UK, Australia and Japan, with more countries to follow soon after.
