Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Max Payne
PC-CDROM
*****
It is rare that a new shoot-'em-up has anything innovative to offer. However, Max Payne, the latest release from Take2, has more special effects than a Will Smith movie – from slow motion "bullet-time" action and photo-realistic graphics, to auto-adjusting skill levels, a plethora of weapons and a cinematic story. Putting it plainly, this is the mother of all action games.

Egypt II
PlayStation
***
This is one of the first PlayStation titles designed in the same format as classic PC games such as Myst and Riven. Players take the role of Tiffet, a young doctor sent on a quest to find the cure for her father's mysterious illness. The game has been created with amazing attention to detail, and while it seldom stretches the imagination, it is definitely a very mature adventure.
(Cryo, out now, £29.99)

Spiderman 2: Enter Electro
PlayStation
***
The second instalment of the arachnid hero's third-person action-adventures finds Spiderman up against an evil plot to frame him. Although the game is not a particularly pretty, it is easy to play, with constant gaming provided, a training option, varied difficulty modes, and special rewards on completion. Perhaps this is an ideal Christmas present for younger gamers?
(Activision, out now, £29.99)

Grand Theft Auto III
PlayStation 2
*****
Grand Theft Auto has finally arrived on the PlayStation 2, and was well worth the wait. Your aim is to work your way up the Mob chain by completing small jobs for "connected guys". Featuring more cars and weapons, a superb 3D third-person perspective, a host of mini-games, and, unfortunately, an 18 certificate to boot, this is definitely a big-boy's toy.
(Take 2, out now, £39.99)
