At least one person is dead and six people are injured after four vehicles were involved in a fiery crash on the Brooklyn Bridge.

All lanes of traffic were closed for two hours as New York Fire Department (NYFD) officials dealt with the blaze.

At 7am, four vehicles - three cars and a pick-up truck - driving on Brooklyn-bound lanes collided and three caught on fire. The flames were clearly visible from the pedestrian overpass and the smoke was visible from Manhattan.

One of the surviving victims was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The others were treated at the scene.

“I waited around an hour and a half,” one driver told CBS New York. “It’s very bad news for everybody.”

The fire was a few feet from a spot where throngs of tourists enter the bridge's pedestrian and cycling path.
