From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Broadway and the world of drag will combine later this month for a streaming variety show to promote voter participation that promises plenty of show tunes and a lot of fierce lipstick.

“Divas For Democracy: United We Slay” will feature Broadway stars such as Chita Rivera and Stephanie J. Block singing theater songs while their drag counterparts from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” “match their vocal prowess with lip sync passion and style,” according to organizers.

The show will stream on StageIt on Oct. 18th. There's a minimum $5 donation and all proceeds benefit Drag Out the Vote, a national, nonpartisan voter engagement nonprofit.

Celebrities slated to appear include Allison Janney, Cyndi Lauper, Harvey Fierstein, James Monroe Iglehart, Bianca Del Rio, Cheyenne Jackson and Mila Jam.

Other than Rivera and Block, the Broadway participants include Tony Award winners Lea Salonga, Nikki M. James, Beth Leavel and Annaleigh Ashford, along with Shoshana Bean, Eden Espinosa, Tony nominee Jenn Collela, Chilina Kennedy, Keala Settle, Tamika Lawrence, L Morgan Lee and Our Lady J.

The divas of drag include stars of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” such as Alaska, Jinkx Monsoon, Jujubee, Valentina, Peppermint, Cynthia Lee Fontaine, Shuga Cain, Honey Davenport, Brita Filter, Marti Gould Cummings and Pixie Aventura.

"This show is a passionate reminder for the LGBTQIA+ community and our theater-loving allies that voting matters. Our aim is to entertain and laugh the audience straight to the polls,” organizers said in a statement.
