THE BELGIAN film Rosetta last night whisked the top Palm d'Or title at the Cannes festival away from the favourite Todo Sobre Di Madre (All About My Mother) - the first film of his the Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has allowed to be entered. Emilie Dequenne, the 18-year-old who made her film debut in the title role, also won best actress.
Another surprise winner was the French L'Humanite, which took the Grand Jury Prize, the best actor for Emmanuel Schotte and best actress runner-up for Severine Caneele.
There were no British winners in Cannes last night.
