Independent wins personal finance journalism awards
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.James Daley, The Independent's deputy personal finance editor, has been named the Bradford & Bingley Personal Finance Journalist of the Year.
At an awards presentation on Wednesday night, a panel of judges that included representatives from the Financial Services Authority, leading financial services companies and several consumer groups, praised Daley for his "non-formulaic and thoughtful approach to journalism".
The judges said Daley's journalism, which spanned a wide range of topics, including pensions, private health insurance and student finance, had been outstanding over the past year. He won the award ahead of more than 100 personal finance journalists considered by the judges.
Daley's success was part of a strong showing from The Independent at the awards, with Save & Spend also picking up plaudits from the judging panel. The Independent's personal finance section took the runner-up award as the Bradford & Bingley Personal Finance National Newspaper of the Year.
The judges said The Independent's personal finance coverage had offered strong campaigns at the same time as entertaining readers. The paper was commended for "its engaging, thorough and relevant articles".
The Bradford & Bingley awards are widely regarded as the most important accolades in personal finance journalism. This year, they celebrated their 20th anniversary.
