American Express Travel, for instance, has some exclusive New Year discounts for Amex cardholders of up to 40 per cent on stays in three- to five-star hotels. There's 30 per cent off rooms at the Grand Hotel Tiberio in Rome, reducing the average room rate from £63 to £43, on dates until mid-March.

Save up to 25% with Flybe on flights across Europe
Many of the world's airlines currently have flight offers. Flybe, for instance, has a January seat sale with discounts of up to 25 per cent on 173 of its most popular European and UK routes. Bookings for travel between 4 February and 15 July must be made by midnight on 14 January. Routes on offer include 13 of those operated by Flybe's franchise partners, Loganair and Stobart Air.
Walking in France? Take a step down in price

Earn up to £180 with BT's package deal
A new deal through Quidco from Monday will allow you to earn up to £180 with BT broadband if you are a new customer taking out a TV, broadband and phone package. The deal runs from Monday 12 January until Sunday 18 January at www.quidco.com.
On a related note, broadband customers will see their monthly bills increase by 89 per cent when their contracts end, meaning they could be £69 per year worse off if they don't switch deals, according to uSwitch.
The site's broadband expert Ewan Taylor-Gibson says: "When it comes to household bills, loyalty never pays."
Halfords puts the spotlight on cyclists
Halfords has launched a "be safe and seen" campaign for the rest of the winter, by selling bike lights at VAT-free prices until 10 March. For example, Lightrider bike lights are reduced in price from £39.99 to £31.99, while the cost of a Lezyne LED Macro Drive bike light pair falls from £89.99 to £71.99.
