Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The best way to get over the January blues is to book a trip away and there are several deals from travel companies to help you do so at more affordable prices right now.

American Express Travel, for instance, has some exclusive New Year discounts for Amex cardholders of up to 40 per cent on stays in three- to five-star hotels. There's 30 per cent off rooms at the Grand Hotel Tiberio in Rome, reducing the average room rate from £63 to £43, on dates until mid-March.

There are similar deals on hotels in Stockholm, New York and many others. Bookings must be made before 26 February through the website travel.americanexpress.co.uk

Save up to 25% with Flybe on flights across Europe

Many of the world's airlines currently have flight offers. Flybe, for instance, has a January seat sale with discounts of up to 25 per cent on 173 of its most popular European and UK routes. Bookings for travel between 4 February and 15 July must be made by midnight on 14 January. Routes on offer include 13 of those operated by Flybe's franchise partners, Loganair and Stobart Air.

Walking in France? Take a step down in price

Specialist French travel operator Belle France has just published its new brochure with a deal of £200 per couple off a range of walking and cycling holidays.

The brochure has some new tours that explore France by foot, bicycle or barge as well as old favourites such as a luxury walking tour of the Burgundy wine region or the walking tour of the Morbihan Islands in Brittany.

To take advantage of the offer quote the discount code BLUE115 when booking at www.bellefrance.com or call 01580 214 010 for more information.

Earn up to £180 with BT's package deal

A new deal through Quidco from Monday will allow you to earn up to £180 with BT broadband if you are a new customer taking out a TV, broadband and phone package. The deal runs from Monday 12 January until Sunday 18 January at www.quidco.com.

On a related note, broadband customers will see their monthly bills increase by 89 per cent when their contracts end, meaning they could be £69 per year worse off if they don't switch deals, according to uSwitch.

The site's broadband expert Ewan Taylor-Gibson says: "When it comes to household bills, loyalty never pays."

Halfords puts the spotlight on cyclists

Halfords has launched a "be safe and seen" campaign for the rest of the winter, by selling bike lights at VAT-free prices until 10 March. For example, Lightrider bike lights are reduced in price from £39.99 to £31.99, while the cost of a Lezyne LED Macro Drive bike light pair falls from £89.99 to £71.99.
