Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Do you know anyone celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this year? If so, they qualify for a free night's stay at any of Travelodge's 504 UK hotels. The company has made the offer to celebrate its own 30-year anniversary.

Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed said: "For a romantic getaway, we have hotels right across the UK in city centres, coastal hotspots and locations such as York, Durham, Bath or the Cotswolds. We also have hotels in grade-II listed buildings across the UK, such as in London, Edinburgh, Brighton, Leeds and Liverpool."

To qualify for the free night, couples need to register before 30 June at 30thweddinganniversary @travelodge.co.uk. They will need to send proof of being married for 30 years in 2015 before being handed their free night's stay.

Savvy winners know their 50 Cent from their 33p

Last week we offered you the chance to win a copy of new personal finance book Money Made Easy, published by Harriman House at £10.99. To be in with a chance of winning you had to answer the question: if the US rapper 50 Cent had been born British, what might his name have been, based on current exchange rates? (a) 33p (b) 50p (c) 66p?

Most of you knew – or worked out – that the answer was (a) 33p. The 10 winners who will be sent the book by the publisher are: Barbara Kennedy, Radford; David Cox, Beverley; Robert Boston, West Malling; Ben Hull, Newcastle; Tom Murphy, Bury; Adrian Brodkin, London; Peter Marsh, Swanage; David Boulton, Peterborough; Bob Gill, Middlewich; and Julia Butler, Paisley.
