This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.
The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

If you're planning a trip abroad this half-term – or anytime soon – book your airport parking before you go and you could save a packet. If you're flying from Heathrow, for instance, you could save almost £100 on the cost of a week's parking, according to Essential Travel, thereby cutting the price from £144.10 to £49.95. The site claims to operate a no-hidden-fees policy, which means that there'll be extra charges for using a credit card, or if you're forced to cancel or change your booking. Save on subscriptions with free reports from Callcredit
Noddle, the free credit-reporting service, says it has now signed up more than 500,000 people. It's a free service from credit-reference agency Callcredit which offers people access to their monthly credit reports. There are no restrictions on the number of times a customer can view their credit report. The company claims that its customers have collectively saved £60m a year, based on the £120 a year they may have been charged on subscription fees by similar services. Give Royal Mail a miss if you want to send a parcel
If you need to send a package, you don't have to pay expensive Royal Mail prices. The privatisation of the former taxpayer-owned business has led to a parcels' price war as rival firms jostle to grab a slice of the market. For instance, Interparcel has temporarily reduced its lowest cost to £1.50, which is more than a quid less than Royal Mail's cheapest offer at £2.60. Meanwhile, courier comparison website Parcel2Go.com says that consumers can currently send parcels for as little as 99p.
