Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Spring Cottage is at the centre of the Hampshire village of St Mary Bourne in the Bourne Valley on the upper reaches of the river Test. The listed cottage is timber-framed with part timber cladding and part brick under a hipped thatched roof and "eyebrow" dormer windows. It is of special architectural and historic interest. A particular feature is an inglenook fireplace. It has four bedrooms with sitting room, dining room and study. There is also an outbuilding in a mature garden. It is close to the mainline stations of Whitchurch and Andover. The guide price is pounds 265,000 through Lane Fox (01962 869999).

Compton Acre, Old Basing, Hampshire, is described as the epitome of the rose-clad English country cottage. It is in a quiet, no-through lane on the edge of the village, three miles from Basingstoke. The three-bedroom thatched cottage has been extended and updated over the past eight years and has a guest annexe and garage with a room over it. The garden, which is about half an acre in all, is fully stocked and has a pond. Compton Acre is on the market at pounds 325,000 through John D Wood (01252 737115).

Mill Cottage, near Salcombe, Devon, has been completely renovated using traditional materials where possible. The three-bedroom cottage in Bolberry, a quiet hamlet one mile inland from Hope Cove, is about four miles from the Salcombe estuary. The cottage has a drawing room, dining room, kitchen/breakfast room and utility room and has an acre of mainly south-facing gardens with a stream and a pond. The asking price is pounds 295,000 through Marchand Petit (01548 844473).
