BARCLAYCARD is predicting an increase of up to 50 per cent in the number of claims made on its Purchase Cover insurance scheme during the Christmas period. The cover, provided free to cardholders, relates to items costing between pounds 50 and pounds 15,000. They will be covered against theft, loss and accidental damage for 100 days after purchase. One of the most common claims is for dresses ruined by spilt drink at parties or spoilt during preparations for Christmas dinner.
