NOW THAT the big London auctioneers have taken their Purdeys to Scotland (or whatever it is they do when not grousing in London), it is time to tootle around country auctions and tomorrow's many fairs. Look particularly for old and new furniture, always in abundance after Christmas.

Birmingham: Pictures and prints, varied selection of televisions and videos, Monday (7pm). Biddle and Webb, Ladywood, Middleway (021 455 8042).

Devizes: Furniture includes bric-a-brac, antiques, sometimes complete clearances, Tuesday (10am). Henry Aldridge and Son, 1 Wine Street (0380 729199).

Warrington: No-reserve items from county courts, Inland Revenue and the police are among 500 varied lots, including furniture, Thursday (10.30am). Littons, Guardian Street (0925 572199).

Derby: Besides furniture, the Cattle Market sale, next Saturday (10.30am), will have collectables and no-reserve repossessions and stolen goods recovered by police. Richardson and Linnell (0332 296369).

Bedford: General sale has everything from furniture to ladies' designer and fashion clothing (Mondi, Emmanuel, Diffusion, Oui), eggs and produce, plant and vehicles - plenty without reserve, next Saturday (9.30am). Wilson and Peacock (0234 266366).
