Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Compaq is looking for a couple of grandparents over 50 to help it research the use of computers by older people. The company is offering a powerful Presario multimedia machine to a couple who are prepared to make it part of their lives. To enter, outline in 150 words why you would be suitable candidates. Compaq says: "Let us know why you want to overcome your technophobia and what you think you would use your computer for - to get gardening tips from the Internet, e-mail children and grandchildren, to embark on a further education course or to get even more involved in a hobby." Compaq will ask you for feedback during the year - some of this may be used in features in Network. Note to kids - this is not a good way of getting yourself a free computer: Compaq will be checking it really is used by grandparents.
Send your entry, with full address and daytime phone number to: Compaq/'Independent' Over-50s project, PO Box, 15, London SW6 3TU.
