From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock has given birth to twins, becoming a mother for the first time.

Pinnock, 29, announced the news in a post to her Instagram on Monday, 23 August, sharing a black-and-white photograph of two sets of baby feet.

“We asked for a miracle, we were given two,” she said, adding that the twins were born earlier this month on 16 August. She did not reveal the babies’ genders or names.

Pinnock announced she and her partner, footballer Andre Gray, were expecting in May but did not disclose she was pregnant with twins.

In photographs from a pregnancy shoot, she is seen wearing a silk emerald green bra with a matching skirt and cape as she cradles her pregnancy bump.

“We’ve dreamed about this moment for so long and we can’t believe the dream is finally coming true... we can’t wait to meet you,” she wrote at the time.

Pinnock and Gray first confirmed their relationship in a post to social media in January 2017 and became engaged in May 2020.

In an appearance on Heart Radio in July 2020, the singer said they would not wed for at least “a couple of years”, but that she had already begun planning the nuptials.

“I’ve given myself time to plan it. But I mean, bridezilla all the way! I know everything, absolutely everything!” she said when asked about whether she had chosen a colour scheme, as reported by The Mirror.

The arrival of Pinnock’s twins came just days before her bandmate, Perrie Edwards and her partner, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain announced they had welcomed their first child on 21 August.

Neither Oxlade-Chamberlain nor Edwards revealed the baby’s name or gender, sharing the same black and white photograph of the side of their child’s face.

“Welcome to world baby 21/08/21,” Edwards wrote in her caption.

The couple also announced their pregnancy in May, just under a week after Pinnock revealed she was expecting.

The news comes after Liverpool player Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled out of a match against Burnley on Saturday citing “personal reasons”, leading fans to speculate that Edwards may have gone into labour.
