Brie Larson has surprised fans by serving popcorn and drinks at a cinema screening of Captain Marvel.

Over the weekend, the Oscar-winner dropped into the AMC cinema in Clifton Commons, New Jersey to meet fans who were attending a screening of her latest superhero film on its opening weekend.

Dressed in a Captain Marvel tracksuit and sipping a drink from a cup with her character’s face on it, Larson was filmed walking into the cinema, much to the surprise of her fans.

"I just heard that I was on the cups and popcorn and I wanted to see for myself," Larson told audience in a video posted by the official Marvel Twitter account.

“Thank you so much for coming. You guys are so awesome to come opening weekend."

During her visit, Larson posed for several photographs with cinemagoers and served up popcorn and soft drinks from the concessions stand in the foyer of the cinema.

Following Larson’s surprise appearance, fans at the screening were quick to share photos of their encounter with the actor on social media.

"Sometimes @brielarson just comes to say hi at your movie theater and you gotta act like she isn't on your shirt," wrote one user on Instagram.

Another explained how she’d taken her cousins to see the film who were overjoyed to meet the actor.

“What an amazing experience. Even better following #internationalwomensday that these girls get to meet a #realrolemodel and #hero,” added the fan.

Larson’s meet and greet follows the news that the actor's latest film is the second largest global opening of any superhero movie behind Avengers: Infinity War and the sixth best global box officer premiere ever.

Last week, Larson said she felt empowered by her Captain Marvel red carpet fashion. The actor has worn several custom outfits by Rodarte in recent weeks including a rainbow sequined co-ord and a gown covered in stars.

“Clothes are a form of expression and they can be something that makes you feel empowered,” the 29-year-old told People.

“I’m introverted, and for me having something that makes me feel good in these very public moments is imperative.”
