From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After deciding that this would be the year her sister, Emily, found a boyfriend and she gained a brother-in-law, Megan Steffen from Chicago created a Tinder profile for her 24-year-old sister.
Steffen tweeted pictures of her sister’s new account and documented the process online.
The account, which is brutally honest, features a description of Emily as a "cheap skate" as well as a "great gal with an alright personality."
But despite the lacklustre description, according to Steffen’s tweet, she matched her sister with 85 men.
She wrote on Twitter: “For Christmas, I got my sis Tinder dates, matched with 85 guys, interviewed over 39, and created a PowerPoint. Too extra or not enough??"
Steffen’s tweet has received over 4,000 likes - and people have become emotionally invested in Emily’s quest for love.
Many people have asked for updates on who Emily decided to choose.
And others are asking Meg for her help with their own dating lives.
As for whether Meg’s method was successful - according to her an update on her Twitter, the whole thing went “exceptionally well.”
Hopefully Jack and Emily work out.
