A woman is being urged to dump her boyfriend by hundreds of strangers after he suggested she make more of an effort with her appearance.

Twitter user Harriet shared a screenshot of a recent text exchange with her boyfriend online, in which he asks her not wear a dressing gown when he visits.

“Why do you dress like that when I’m not there rather than when I am there?” he asked.

To which Harriet replied: “I don’t dress to impress.”

Unhappy with her response, the unnamed man said it annoys him before adding, “Yesterday you were sat there in your greasing [dressing] gown.

“Doesn’t hurt to put some nice clothes on.”

Unsurprisingly, Harriet fired back with an expletive before broadcasting his insensitive comments online for everyone to see.

Alongside the screenshot she wrote: “Warning girls do not wear a dressing gown when he comes round.”

Single people have greater community involvement, research finds

Since posting, Harriet’s tweet has received more than 13,000 likes, 1,000 retweets and has been flooded with comments from people urging her to leave her boyfriend.

Some replied candidly simply telling Harriet to “dump him.”

”You don't need that negativity in your life gal,” one person wrote.

Another added: “Go meet him, whilst in your dressing gown - and promptly dump him.”

Meanwhile, others mocked the unnamed man for his inability to spell dressing gown correctly.

“I'm mostly upset by the two failed attempts to spell dressing gown. Greasing Gown?!” someone commented.

Another agreed adding: “I would leave him just cause he disrespected the dressing gown by calling it ‘greasing gown’.”
