If you get that hollow sinking feeling at the thought of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 3 you may need to fortify yourself with sausage, bacon, egg and chips (pounds 3.40, or pounds 2.90 before noon) and a bottle of beer (pounds 2) at one of the red gingham tables outside the Tubino Bar before the long hike to the Proms. Handy for the dinosaurs and easy to find from South Kensington Tube, the cafe lets you stage your own Ugliest Family in Christendom pageant as the hideously Bermuda-shorted world trudges by. Wine pounds 1.80 a glass, a dry but sustaining Parma ham and cheese on ciabatta is pounds 2.50 plus various Italian dishes. 7am-10pm Mon-Fri, 7am-5pm Sats.

Tubino Bar, 2a Exhibition Rd (Thurloe St end), SW7 (071-581 8831).
