Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Dome, 38 High St, Hampstead NW3 (071 435 4240)

Hampstead changes in the evenings: the demi-suburbia of the daylight hours fills with teenagers pushing each other and smoking fags. This reaches its acme around the Dome, one of a chain of cafe-brasseries scattered about London. Fight your way though the crowd, ignore the fishy looks directed at anyone over 23 and indulge at small tables in capuccinos (pounds 1.35), wine (pounds 1.95 a glass), salads and croque monsieurs (all very early Eighties New Bistro) while reading the papers provided on racks. Then go for a walk (or something else) on the heath or watch an arty film at the Everyman cinema. Open 8am-11pm Mon-Sat, 9am-10.30pm Sun.

Monday: Gordon's Wine Bar, Villiers St, WC2
