Yesterday, the youngest of the Kardashian clan Kylie Jenner finally confirmed that she had given birth to a baby girl on February 1 after months of speculation over her pregnancy.
20-year-old Jenner released a statement on Instagram announcing the news, in addition to an 11-minute documentary-style video on YouTube called “To Our Daughter”.
The video is compiled of snippets of footage over the course of Jenner’s pregnancy, with Canadian videographer Ross behind the camera every step of the way.
While Ross may now be a trusted member of the Kardashian-Jenner entourage, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the man who goes by the alias “White Trash Tyler”.
Ross has undoubtedly worked his way up from the bottom to reach the level of recognition that he now has today, even having to briefly work as a garbage man in 2013 in order to stay on his feet.
“I was shooting videos part time but I wasn’t making enough money to survive,” he told Complex magazine.
Ross realised his dream to become a videographer after helping an old roommate create YouTube videos.
After attaining a marketing degree from college, Ross decided to forego an office job within a tobacco company and travelled to LA instead to pursue his creative aspiration.
“White Trash Tyler” has since made quite a name for himself working with a host of big names, including the likes of Drake, Future and FKA Twigs.
Ross was part of the team who created Kanye West’s iconic music video for his song “Famous” and he edited the video that West gifted Kim Kardashian for her 36th birthday.
He became close with Jenner’s boyfriend, Travis Scott, when the 25-year-old rapper went on tour with Kendrick Lamar last year.
Ross was given the opportunity to record every aspect of Jenner’s pregnancy, including her ultrasounds, her baby shower and the moments leading up to and straight after the birth.
The significance of becoming a part of the lives of some of the most famous people in the world hasn’t been lost on the videographer originally from Dartmouth in Nova Scotia.
“I always have this thought where I’m like, at what point am I documenting, just there like fly on the wall or am I involved in the conversation?" he told VICE.
“Or when do I interject from behind the camera, or when do I just remain silent and capture the moment?"
