Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Today has seen an estimated 100,000 people take to the streets of central London to protest against Donald Trump's first official visit to the UK.
Despite the serious issues which compelled protesters to march including the President's controversial views on immigration, stances on abortion, views on climate change, comments about ethnic minorities and much else, the general mood surrounding today's activism has been one of positivity, celebration and unity.
Congregating at Portland Place and marching down to Trafalgar Square for a rally, the "Bring the Noise" march saw protesters chanting "Donald Trump's not welcome here."
And it wasn't the only protest against the President's UK visit today, either. The morning saw a dedicated women's march followed by a drag march in which some dressed as the president and others dressed up to celebrate all sexualities.
Meanwhile, a giant 20-foot blimp baby POTUS floated above Parliament Square.
Of course, any protest is an opportunity to get creative with placards. Here, we've rounded up the best, the brightest and the down-right funniest of the day.
