Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

WHERE IS this? Your task is simply to guess in which city the picture on the right was taken. The prize for the first correct answer out of the hat will be a three-night break for two in that very city.

To enter, send your answer, along with your name, address and telephone number, on a postcard to: City Break Competition, the Travel Desk, Independent on Sunday, 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DL. Entries must arrive by first post on Thursday 23 September.

Last week's city break competition was set in Paris. The winner is Ms C Adler of London N16. She and a friend will travel to Paris and stay in a three-star hotel courtesy of Eurostar Holidays (tel: 0870 1676767; brochures tel: 0845 0770777). A similar break costs about pounds 210 per person, based on two sharing. (First-class return travel costs a supplement of pounds 66 per person.) Call the above numbers for further details.

RULES: 1. The prize includes transport and three nights' accommodation for two people sharing a room. All other meals, drinks, travelling expenses and extras will be charged as taken. 2. The holiday is subject to availability and must be taken by 31 March 2000, excluding some peak periods. 3. The holiday is not transferable and there is no cash alternative. 4. Only one entry per person. The prize draw/competition is open to all residents of the UK aged 18 and over other than the employees (and their families) of Independent Newspapers or subsidiary companies. 5. The competition winner will be picked on Thursday 16 September and the winner will be notified in writing within seven days of the draw. 6. The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. No responsibility will be taken for entries lost or damaged in the post. 7. All entries are the sole property of the Independent on Sunday and the winner must be willing to have his or her name published. 8. For details of correct answers and winner, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Travel Desk at the Independent on Sunday. 9. No purchase is necessary.
