Throughout the show, the Little Women star appeared in several sketches ,including one where he played a coronavirus cell and another where her impersonated the former One Direction singer.
Appearing alongside comedian Ego Nwodim, who played Dionne Warwick, the skit simulated a daytime talk show and saw Chalamet dress in an outfit similar to those which Styles has become synonymous with in recent years.
The actor donned a cropped patterned jumper layered over an oversized collared shirt and high-waisted brown corduroy trousers.
“Miss Warwick, you’re a legend, I can’t believe it, I’m such a massive fan,” Chalamet said in Styles' signature Cheshire accent.
When asked by Nwodim who he was, Chalamet responded: “I’m Harry Styles, I am a singer, sort of an essential fashion man and you could say, I do it for everyone,” before winking at the camera.
When Nwodim’s Warwick asked where she knew the British pop star from, Chalamet pointed to Styles’ hit song “Watermelon Sugar”.
“I think it’s just about summer, but some people think it’s about oral sex,” Chalamet told her, referring to the ongoing debate about the track’s significance. He clarified: “On a woman.”
Fans of the Lady Bird actor and “Golden” singer quickly reacted to the crossover on Twitter, with one person joking that the sketch made it feel like “the world has come full circle,” and another stating it was “the best thing I’ve ever witnessed.”
Another person wrote: “I’ll be going to sleep tonight and every night after tonight dreaming about @RealChalamet as @Harry_Styles,” while someone else commented: “Timothée Chalamet acting like Harry Styles on SNL is the best thing to happen to humanity and nothing can ever top it.”
The crossover didn't end there. At the end of the show, Chalamet drew inspiration from Styles again for his final send-off.
“I guess I could say one thing, is treat others with kindness. And you know, we’ve all been through a crazy year. That can be something that sounds corny,” Chalamet said.
He continued: “Somebody else famous made it really well known, that saying, but… Harry Styles did it.
“I impersonated him two seconds ago. But it’s true, we could all do a little bit of kindness. Every little gesture counts.”
