Just hours after Taylor Swift dropped her ninth studio album Evermore on Friday, the plaid Stella McCartney coat she wore on the cover sold-out.

Ahead of the release of the album, which she described as Folklore’s sister album, Swift announced its debut on Instagram with a photo of herself facing the woods and wearing a plaid wool coat and a braid.

On the album cover, and in promotional content, which Swift also shared on Instagram, she can be seen wearing the same $2,875 brown-and-orange Stella McCartney coat, which has since sold out on FarFetch after fans expressed their love of the garment.

“I’ve never needed anything like I need Taylor Swift's $3,000 Stella McCartney coat,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “We’re all Googling ‘Taylor Swift Coat’ right???”

According to the Stella McCartney Instagram, which shared background information about the album’s fashion, the coat - one of multiple pieces designed for Swift’s Evermore - is a sustainable piece from the designer’s “23 Old Bond Street Limited Edition Collection; inspired by our Runway Collection”.

“When a friend comes to you, explaining she needs help styling and finding pieces to reflect her new secret project, it’s a precious gift,” the Instagram quotes McCartney as saying. “Creating the collection was effortless - a rare moment full of warmth and ease, at a time when friendship is more important than ever.”

In a separate post, the Instagram shared a quote from the singer, in which she praised the designer for her help creating clothes that fit the vision she had for the album.

“Stella is so creative. I told her I had a secret project and she designed clothes that were EXACTLY what I imagined. I drove to her office, picked them up and took them into the woods!!” Swift said.

In addition to the plaid coat, Swift also wore two other coats by the designer for Evermore, including an oversized denim jacket, which is available for $1,323 on FarFetch.

This is not the first time Swift has worked with McCartney. In 2019, the 31-year-old collaborated with the designer on a Lover-inspired clothing collection.

She has also worn McCartney on numerous occasions, including recently for the Academy of Country Music Awards in September.

According to McCartney, designing for Swift’s newest project “happened so naturally” because of their close relationship.

“Knowing someone well makes creating something for them easier. With Taylor, everything happened so naturally; the pieces I made reflected the effortless emotionality of her album. Complementing a friend’s creation is rare and precious and feels incredibly special,” the designer said.
