From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Thursday, the heiress, 36, uploaded an Instagram photo of the couple’s six-year-old daughter Sophia - known as Fifi - cradling the newborn while the family’s dog looks on.
“Three weeks ago you completed us baby Serena,” Ecclestone captioned the photo. “Watching the love Fifi has for her baby sister makes me happier and prouder than I could [have] ever dreamed of.”
Ecclestone gave birth to the newborn in September, with her father, Bernie Ecclestone, sharing the news of the baby’s arrival.
“I'm absolutely thrilled to be a grandfather again,” the former Formula One boss told the DailyMail, while revealing the baby’s name. “Mother and baby are doing brilliantly. She’s a beautiful little thing.”
The 89-year-old, who recently became a new dad again in July, when he and his wife Fabiana Flosi welcomed son Ace, also discussed the closeness in age between the newborns and his belief they will grow up friends.
“Serena and Ace are very close in age and so will be able to play together when they’re a little older,” he said, adding: “I’m delighted that Serena is with us at last. I’m getting quite the collection of grandkids!”
On Instagram, the sweet photo of the siblings was met with an outpouring of well-wishes from fans.
“This makes me happy! What a gorgeous picture,” one person commented, while another said: “Congratulations to you all. Wonderful news, Fifi will be the best big sister, such a beautiful photo.”
The arrival of the couple’s second daughter comes after Ecclestone told Hello! magazine last year that Sophia was hoping for a younger sister.
“She’s been talking about how much she wants a sibling, and for the first time I'm open to the idea,” she said at the time. “She really wants a sister, but certainly not a brother - she's very girlie and thinks boys are smelly."
