From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

“Sometimes I open my mouth to ask a question and hear Piers’s voice come out,” the presenter told Radio Times.
Although she and Morgan are regularly seen debating on live television, Reid has previously admitted that her co-host’s outspoken nature has reduced her to tears in the past.
Reid moved from BBC Breakfast to ITV’s Good Morning Britain in 2014, and Morgan joined her as co-host in 2015.
She told the magazine that when she learned who her new colleague would be, “I was like… Arghhh!… Sitting next to a hedgehog.” And, she says, she struggled with their relationship until last year.
Despite this, the duo have proved to be a winning partnership for ITV, despite the fact that the show’s viewing figures still trail behind those of their rival, BBC Breakfast.
Reid says her troublesome relationship with Morgan came to a head when he was heavily critical of the Women’s Marches in 2017 - and she was criticised for it.
“It wasn’t women who were criticising me, it was the men,” she said. “They accused me of enabling his anti-feminist views.
“The man sitting next to me was spouting off whatever he believes, which I don’t agree with, and I was trying to stand up for my views, and the right for women to march.
“I had men telling me it was my fault he was saying this. And I was just like, I’ve had enough of men telling me how I should be a feminist. I’ve had enough of it.”
Now, however, Reid says she’s realised she’s not responsible for what Morgan says and it’s not her job “to pick up the pieces.”
Although Morgan is reportedly paid more than Reid, she has revealed she doesn’t know what her co-star earns nor is she bothered: “I have no reason to be complaining about my pay. I’m well paid,” Reid said.
