Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Stop right now, because if you’ve always wanted to book a night’s stay in double-decker bus inspired by the Spice Girls, it’s your lucky day.

For the first time ever, fans of the Nineties girls’ band now have the chance to sleep over in the original Spice Bus featured in the 1997 movie Spice World.

The Spice Bus is currently listed on Airbnb and situated in the heart of Wembley Park, ahead of the band’s concert at Wembley Stadium this summer.

According to the listing, the bus is identical to how it looked in the film, with its large Union Jack-painted exterior. But it’s the interior which has been revamped and modernised for 2019.

The recently renovated living space downstairs features pink Union Jack cinema-style chairs which sit below a “Girl Power” neon light installation, where guests can sit and listen to a selection of Nineties CDs and read magazines printed during the pop era.

While the driver’s seat remains at the front of the vehicle, sadly singer Meatloaf – who made a cameo in the film as the Spice Girls’ bus driver – is not included in the booking.

A staircase covered in Scary Spice-inspired animal print carpet leads up to the upstairs area, where guests can enjoy dressing up in the accommodation’s walk-in wardrobe which features a hanging rail and dressing table – ideal for those who want to recreate Posh Spice’s perfectly lined lips.

Meanwhile, the adjoining bedroom features glitter balls, plush scatter cushions and a double-bed.

“The Spice Girls were my childhood obsession,” explains the bus' host Suzanne Godley.

“My parents were subjected to my tone-deaf performances as Baby Spice, and I must have watched the Spice World movie hundreds of times. And while I have grown up over the years, I don’t think I’ve ever grown out of my love for them.”

Godley says she heard her boss was considering buying the Spice Bus and was “desperate to be a part of its renovation”.

“We’ve worked hard over the past few months to turn the bus into a home, in keeping with its legacy, and I’m so excited to open it up to the public with the support of Airbnb. Being part of this project has been like a dream come true and I can’t wait to meet other Spice Girls fans through this experience."

It’s worth noting that a temporary bathroom – featuring a toilet, shower, sink, and “premium toiletries” – will be provided with the bus, but the accommodation lacks kitchen facilities, running water and WiFi.

The bus, which sleeps a maximum of three people, will be available for bookings for Friday 14 and Saturday 15 June for £99 a night.

Spice Girls fans will be able to book a stay from 8am on Wednesday 22 May.

In November, the Spice Girls announced they were embarking on their first tour in a decade, with band members Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Melanie Chrisholm set to take the stage.

The foursome are set to kick off their tour in Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on 1 June and will finish on 24 May in Dublin’s Croke Park.
