SKIING RESORT REPORT: OKEMO
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

At 3,000ft, the mountain is small in comparison with the Rockies, but the 98 trails offer some of the best skiing in the region.
Okemo is a great place to spend a few days, and its easy accessibility from Boston and New York makes it a good destination to combine with business or a city break. Since most of the clientele are locals coming for the weekend, it can be a pleasant place for relaxed mid-week skiing.
There is plenty of accommodation right on the slopes; but most of the restaurants, with the exception of the excellent Summit Lodge, are at the bottom of the mountain. Over the past year, nearly $4m has been spent there, mainly on snow-making facilities - which are now the most efficient in eastern USA. This balances out the cold and icy conditions that can sometimes mar a trip to Vermont, and enables the resort to stay open for a long season: the first slopes open on 11 November and should remain open until the end of April.
No British operators offer packages to Okemo. Book by calling the resort on 00 1 802 223 2439 or visiting their website: www.skivermont.com
