Faebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg is engaged, according to an announcement fittingly shared on Facebook.

On Monday, the social media executive shared the news alongside a black-and-white photo of herself and her new fiancé Tom Bernthal.

“Engaged!!! Tom Bernthal, you are my everything. I could not love you more,” Sandberg captioned the photo, which has since been liked more than 8,000 times.

According to People, the couple got engaged on 1 February during a mountain hike at Vermejo Park Ranch.

Bernthal, 46, is the founder and chief executive officer of Kelton Global, a consulting firm based in Los Angeles, California. He was introduced to Sandberg by her former brother-in-law, Rob Goldberg, People reports.

The couple first started dating last spring, with their engagement coming nearly five years after Sandberg’s husband Dave Goldberg died while the couple were vacationing in Mexico in 2015, with an autopsy later revealing the cause of death to be coronary arrhythmia, according to CNN.

Bernthal, who was also previously married, proposed with a ring featuring “five hidden diamonds underneath the setting,” according to People, with the gems meant to represent both Sandberg’s son and daughter and Bernthal’s three children.

“They both see the world in the same way. Their kids are number one,” Goldberg told the outlet of the couple's engagement. “They are blending their families and their lives and that’s a testament to how in love they are. They’re building a future going forward together.”

The couple’s announcement comes after Sandberg opened up about dating after the loss of a spouse in 2017 during an interview with The Guardian.

“Men date sooner, men date more, and women get judged more,” she said at the time. “And, you know, obviously that’s super unfair. I think I’m helping people remember that dating, for those who want to do it, is part of moving forward, and it is option B.

“If I could I would only date Dave. I made that choice. I made that choice. I just had that taken away from me.”
