Selena Gomez has “proudly” shown off her kidney transplant scar while admitting she used to be self-conscious about the scar from her 2017 surgery.

On Thursday, the Ice Cream singer shared an Instagram photo of herself posing in a blue one-piece bathing suit designed by her friend Theresa Mingus.

In the caption, Gomez reflected on how “difficult” it was at first for her to show off the scar on her inner thigh, but how she has since come to embrace it.

“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar,” the 28-year-old wrote. “I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up.

“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through...and I’m proud of that.

“T - Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that...all bodies are beautiful.”

The Rare Beauty founder’s post prompted an outpouring of support from her followers, who praised her for her honesty and confidence.

“This is so important! Especially for young girls all around the world! Thank you for showing our scars are beautiful and all bodies are beautiful,” one person commented.

Another said: “As a kidney transplant recipient too, you inspire and help many others going through the same thing. Thank you.”

Gomez received a kidney transplant in 2017 from her friend Francia Raisa after becoming ill due to complications from the autoimmune disease lupus.

Following the procedure, the singer shared a photo of herself and Raisa holding hands from their hospital beds as well as photos of her stomach following the surgery.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raísa,” Gomez wrote on Instagram.

“She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
