Members of the royal family have wished Princess Anne a happy birthday as she marks her milestone 70th year.

On 15 August 1950, Princess Anne was born at Clarence House, the second child of then-Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh.

As the Princess Royal commemorates her 70th birthday, members of the royal family, including the Queen, her elder brother Prince Charles and her nephew Prince William, have shared celebratory messages on social media in her honour.

Two tweets shared on the official account of the royal family featured three new photographs of Princess Anne, all of which were taken at Gatcombe Park.

One of the images, which was taken in February this year, shows the princess standing in front of a large tree, dressed for the outdoors in a polo neck, checkered shirt and trousers.

The third picture, which was captured by photographer John Swannell, shows Princess Anne beaming while sitting down, wearing an elegant cream gown and pearl accessories.

“Thank you for all the warm wishes on The Princess Royal’s 70th birthday today!” the tweet reads.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared two pictures on their social media accounts, which show the princess photographed separately with the duke and duchess.

The photograph with Prince William depicts him and his aunt conversing while attending an event at Buckingham Palace, while the picture of Catherine and Princess Anne shows the pair chatting jovially on the balcony of the Palace.

“Wishing a very happy 70th birthday to Her Royal Highness The PRincess Royal! #PrincessRoyalAt70,” the duke and duchess’s message reads.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles took a nostalgic look at his relationship with his younger sister, sharing a montage of photographs including several pictures from their childhood.

“Wishing The Princess Royal a very happy 70th Birthday,” the message from the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall reads. “Let’s take a look back at some family photos through the decades.”

In one of the black-and-white pictures, the royal siblings are riding horses alongside one another at what appears to be a high speed, while a more recent photograph shows Prince Charles and Princess Anne sharing a laugh together.

The Princess Royal has had many remarkable experiences throughout her life, from competing at the Olympics as an equestrian to surviving a kidnap attempt on The Mall near Buckingham Palace.
