Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has demanded the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “name the racist” they claimed raised questions about how dark Archie’s skin might be during Meghan’s pregnancy.

The couple made the claims during a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired on CBS in the US on Sunday and is set to air in the UK on ITV tonight.

Meghan said during the interview: “In those months when I was pregnant ... we have in tandem the conversation of ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

She was asked by Oprah who was having those conversations and replied: “That was relayed to me from Harry from conversations that family had with him.”

But while the couple’s allegation prompted shock and disbelief from Oprah, and sparked outrage on social media, Piers Morgan instead hit out at the couple and questioned why they had chosen not to name the family member who they say made the comments.

“The unsubstantiated allegations … and the most serious ones with no names attached to them, which I think is cowardly,” Morgan said.

“Give us the names, you spraygunned everybody else by name so give us the names of the racist, give us the name about who you went to about your mental health and you said rejected you out of hand – that you weren’t entitled to any help – we need to know who these people were.

“No good hiding under the cloak of anonymity, so you look at all of them in the same callous, racist way?”

The Good Morning Britain host’s main concern did not appear to be rooting out any alleged wrongdoing, but instead questioning why the couple had not been forthcoming with the names.

“It's so disloyal, so disloyal,” Morgan said of the interview as a whole. “What’s compassionate about spraygunning the royal family while prince Philip lays in hospital? Where’s the compassion for the Queen and Prince Philip right now?”

“All they care about is their own misery and woe in their $11m mansion,” he added.

“They have trashed his dad, they have trashed his brother they have trashed his sister in law, they have trashed everything the queen has worked so hard to maintain or the monarchy.”

Morgan’s co-host Susanna Reid meanwhile attempted to defend the couple, interjecting: “They felt they were trashed, they felt they were lied about,” as Morgan continued his rant against Meghan and Harry.

The TV host famously fell-out with the Duchess after “being friendly” with her, saying ahead of the interview that he had been dropped “like a sack of spuds” after Meghan became more famous.

“We’re all going to watch it,” he said ahead of the Oprah interview, The Mirror reported. “And I’ll watch it through a slight jaundiced eye ... from my own experience of having been friendly with Meghan and then been ditched like a sack of spuds!”
