Kate Middleton’s sweet tradition for Prince George’s birthday

Preparations for George’s special birthday are likely to be in full swing. His mother, Kate Middleton, is expected to stay up late on Friday evening in order to continue a sweet tradition she started for her three children on their birthdays.
Appearing on Mary Berry’s A Berry Royal Christmas in 2019, Kate said that she stays up baking until midnight on the eve of her children’s birthdays each year.
“I love making the cake,” she shared. “It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ‘til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.”
Ahead of the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last summer, photos were shared from the family’s kitchen as she, George, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five, helped to make some cupcakes for a street party.
George’s birthday comes as the young royal has broken up from school for his summer holidays. To kick off the summer break, William and Kate took their three children to the world’s largest military air show last week (14 July).
The children checked out the jets, helicopters and historical planes on display at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in Gloucestershire. They shook hands with senior members of the RAF before being escorted up the ramp of the transport plane with their parents.
George was given the task of raising the ramp by using the control buttons as his parents proudly watched.
Then, two days later on Sunday (16 July), Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended Wimbledon with their parents, marking Charlotte’s first time at the annual tennis tournament. Meanwhile, Prince Louis stayed at home.
Charlotte was introduced to eight-year-old Mu’awwiz Anwar, who represented the charity WaterAid, and performed the coin toss at the Men’s Singles final.
Speaking to Ella Ottaway, Children, Young People and Families Coordinator at Wimbledon, Kate said: “It’s Charlotte’s first time [at the event], George came last year.
“They’ve been eagerly watching. Charlotte you’ve been getting to grips with the scoring haven’t you,” she said to her children.
The royal added that Prince Louis was “very upset” he was not attending the tournament.
At the women’s singles final on Saturday (15 July), Kate was seen rubbing the arm of the defeated Tunisian player Ons Jabeur to console her after she tearfully collected the runner-up shield.
