Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. From the moment you step into the Ritz-Carlton on New York City’s Upper East Side, you’re immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of elegance and comfort.
Before I’d even approached the reception desk during a recent stay, I was greeted by name. “Ms Ritschel, we’ve been expecting you,” the concierge said, as he stepped out to take my luggage.
The flawless greeting was indicative of the type of service that lasted throughout my entire staycation, evident at every point of my visit.
After I was informed that my stay allowed me club access, I was directed toward the bank of elevators in the stunning gilded lobby. The prospect of a light snack proved too appealing, so I found myself entering the exclusive club lounge in the hopes of tiding myself over until an early dinner.
There, I found not just snacks, but an entire display of foods to choose from. Because it was around lunchtime, there were options such as sandwiches and soup, but also bao buns, crudité, fruits and cheeses and salad. I was immediately approached by a waiter who asked about beverage options, and who returned mere moments later with my first of multiple mimosas.
The comfort of the lounge is unmatched, while the quiet ambiance completely distracts from the fact that you are truly in the heart of New York City. The sounds of taxis honking, normally an unavoidable part of New York City living, was completely absent during my stay.
I was then whisked up to my room, which boasted an incredible view of Central Park, as the hotel is just a stone’s throw away from the expansive park in the middle of Manhattan. The location of the iconic hotel is reflected in the price, with rooms starting at $1,215 a night.
The rooms and suites at the Ritz-Carlton are nothing short of spectacular. My suite was spacious and elegantly furnished with plush bedding, a stunning headboard, fine linens, and a serene color palette that created a calming retreat from the bustling city outside. The bathroom was a marble sanctuary, and every detail, from the plush robes to the well-stocked minibar, was meticulously thought out to enhance the experience.
A plate of chocolates and a personalized note made the experience even more wonderful, to the point that I could have happily spent the entire night in my suite.
However, after enjoying the hotel room, and luxurious bed for multiple hours, I prepared for a night out in New York City. The location of the hotel meant I was within walking distance of Lincoln Center, where I indulged in an incredible meal at Lincoln Restaurante, situated in the shadow of Juliard School.
After a memorable multi-course meal, I walked slowly back to the hotel, admiring my stunning surroundings as I did so.
The next morning, after a luxurious slumber, I visited the La Prairie Spa, which offers an oasis of calm with an array of treatments designed to rejuvenate body and mind. From the moment I entered the spa, I was enveloped in tranquility. The spa’s design exudes luxury, while the spa menu is extensive, offering a range of treatments designed to pamper and rejuvenate. I opted for a 60-minute signature massage, which was a highlight of my stay. The treatment began with a personalized consultation where the therapist took the time to understand my specific needs and preferences, and included a choice of music. I selected Andrea Bocelli, whose voice gently filled the speakers as I relaxed over the course of an hour.
Staying at the Ritz-Carlton in New York City is more than just a hotel stay - it’s a luxurious experience that captures the essence of Manhattan. Whether you’re in town for business, leisure, a special occasion, or simply want to enjoy a staycation like I did, the hotel offers an exceptional blend of elegance, comfort, and personalized service that leaves you wanting for nothing.
