Your support makes all the difference.In 1933 Cartier made its first waterproof watch, for the Pasha of Marrakesh. The watch, which had a grid effect over the face that mimicked the grid found on deep-sea divers' helmets, never went on general sale. Fifty years later, archive pictures of the Moroccan prince's watch were found, and a range of watches named after him was launched in 1985. Now Cartier has simplified the design. Made entirely of steel, the "Pasha" watch featured here is waterproof to a depth of 100 metres, available with white, pearl grey, and mid-blue watch faces, and is reassuringly chunky, as diver's watches should be. It is too understated to attract the attention of muggers, but it is far from cheap - at pounds 1,995. Simply perfect. AB
