The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have wished the Duke of Edinburgh, or "Grandpa", a happy birthday on Instagram.

On Monday 10 June, Prince Philip celebrated his 98th birthday.

To mark the milestone, several members of the royal family shared birthday posts in celebration of the duke on social media.

One of these posts came from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who shared a photograph of the duke with his grandfather at the 2015 Rugby World Cup from the @sussexroyal Instagram account.

"Wishing His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Sir, Grandpa a very Happy 98th Birthday!" the Instagram caption read.

Several Instagram users remarked upon the convivial nature of the Sussexes' post.

"'Sir Grandpa'. How sweet!" one person commented.

"The cutest caption of royal posts," another added.

The @sussexroyal post also included a photograph of Prince Philip with the Queen, taken while the couple danced at a Navy Ball in Malta in 1950.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wished Prince Philip a happy birthday on Twitter from the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter account.

"Wishing a very Happy 98th Birthday to His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh! #HappyBirthdayHRH," the tweet read.

The Cambridges shared a selection of photographs in commemoration of the occasion, including one featuring Princess Charlotte during her Buckingham Palace balcony debut in 2016.

Princess Eugenie, the only royal known to have her own personal Instagram account, posted a series of throwback pictures of herself with her grandfather for his birthday.

"Happy Birthday to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh," she wrote.

"I found a couple of classic photographs of Grandpa and I on Christmas Day and Trooping the Colour a few years ago now..."

In one of the pictures, Prince Philip pats a young Princess Eugenie on the head as she cups her face in her hands.

Prince Philip celebrated his 98th birthday two days after the Trooping the Colour parade.

The ceremony took place as part of the Queen's official birthday celebrations.

The Queen's actual birthday fell on 21 April, during which the monarch turned 93.

This year's Trooping the Colour ceremony marked the first for one-year-old Prince Louis.

The occasion also marked the second public engagement for the Duchess of Sussex following the birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on 6 May.

The duchess wore a navy, short-sleeved dressed by Givenchy's Clare Waight Keller and a matching hat by milliner Noel Stewart for the parade.

Ahead of the ceremony, the royal rode in a carriage alongside Prince Harry, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge.
