From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Duke of Sussex is set to join the annual charity music and comedy event Stand Up For Heroes, according to a statement from the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

Prince Harry will make a virtual appearance at the US event next week, that will be hosted by Jon Stewart, alongside Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Tiffany Haddish, Brad Paisley, Ray Romano, and Patti Scialfa.

It is the first time the event has been held virtually in 14 years, and will air on 18 November at 9pm EST.

The Stand Up for Heroes fundraiser aims to help war veterans and military families, and was started by ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff after he sustained head injuries in Iraq, while covering the war.

“For the last 14 years, the Stand Up for Heroes event has continued to inspire our nation and serves as a reminder of all of the brave individuals that have defended our country selflessly in our military,” said Woodruff. "This year, it is especially important that we unite to show support for their sacrifices as we come together virtually to stand up for our heroes."

It is so far unclear as to whether Prince Harry will crack a joke or two at the Stand Up for Heroes event, or whether he will simply be making an appearance. He is listed as a “special guest”.

In honour of Remembrance Day (or Veteran's day in the US) Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited the Los Angeles National Cemetery on Sunday, to pay tribute to commonwealth soldiers who served and died in the Second World War.

Prince Harry signed a note on the wreath he laid, saying: "To all of those who have served and are serving. Thank you." He served for 10 years as Major, Lieutenant Commander and Squadron Leader in the British armed forced and undertook two tours in Afghanistan.

It’s not the first time members of the Royal Family have tried their hand at comedy, Prince William appeared with Stephen Fry in April, on the BBC’s The Big Night In, a collaboration between Children In Need and Comic Relief to raise funds for people affected by Covid-19.

The Duke of Cambridge joked that he had no trousers on, while on an amusing Zoom call with Blackadder actor Fry.

The Stand Up for Heroes event has previously been held in the Beacon Theater on New York’s Broadway, but will go virtual this year on ABC News Live, TikTok, Facebook Watch, Cheddar, Twitch, and the Armed Forces Network.
