Prince George might only be five years old, but it seems the young royal has already played tennis with one of sports’ greatest stars, Roger Federer.

The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly made the revelation about her son at Wimbledon on Tuesday while speaking to former tennis player Anne Keothavong on the tournament’s radio show, Wimbledon Coffee Morning.

Keothavong recalled the conversation with reporter Adam Hunt, who subsequently said on the radio programme: “Anne was just saying, ‘What a special day’ – and (Kate) is such a good ambassador for tennis.

“She comes to Wimbledon every year, she really likes tennis, she was talking about George, apparently.”

Hunt went on to explain how Federer is the Prince George’s favourite tennis player, adding: “he’s actually got to play with him. The whole family loves tennis, and George is apparently quite a good player”.

Kate Middleton has been a keen tennis fan for years and is a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the venue that hosts Wimbledon.

Middleton has attended the tournament regularly since entering into the royal family in 2011.

On Tuesday, the mother-of-three made an appearance at the tennis tournament wearing a white button-up dress by British fashion label Suzannah. The Duchess accessorised the look with an Alexander McQueen clutch.

Her Royal Highness watched a handful of Wimbledon matches that day, including one between British player Harriet Dart and American tennis pro, Christina McHale. For the game, which took place on Court 14, Middleton sat alongside Keothavong and British tennis champ, Katie Boutler, who posted a photograph of herself and the Duchess on Instagram with the caption, “honoured”.

Middleton also met with players Andy Murray and Johanna Konta on the day.
