Following more than two years of arduous negotiations, The Fan Museum in Greenwich has succeeded in bringing to light a small, yet priceless collection of fans (right). The treasures, which up until now have been kept in the archives of the Hermitage State Museum in St Petersburg since the revolution in 1917, have never been seen by the public, even in Russia, and have never previously been catalogued.

In view of the precious nature of the fans, it is appropriate that one of the exhibition's official sponsors is none other than Securior. Group 4 eat your heart out.

The Fan Museum, 12 Crooms Hill, Greenwich, London SE10 (0181-305 1441) from 16 Oct
