Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.VIP births and partying represent the two extremes of Christmas, and, by pure chance, Bjorn Again bring them into gloriously camp union. The original tribute band will be packin' em out until Sunday at the Shepherd's (better still!) Bush Empire. Perhaps, as part of a series of Christianity/Abba tie-ins, they ought to consider playing a few Easter gigs as "Risen Again"?

At a time of year when Christmas puns drip from every press release and clog up the papers (see above), it's a relief to see the Royal
Exchange Theatre Company rise above the ghastly possibilities that lurk in the name of their latest production's author: Noel Coward. The most poised of English playwrights was loth to resort to such crudeness and Present Laughter - tackling the mid-life crisis of an egotistical actor - is no exception.

I've no idea what it'll be like, but Macbeth the Panto Or Duncan Where's Your Troozers? sounds like it could move Birnam Wood to Dunsinane by sheer silliness. Oddsocks Theatre Company may be onto something though: how about "King Lear the Panto Or Mind Yer Peepers, Gloucester!" next year?

Tonight and tomorrow night, join Olivier-winning singer Kim Criswell as she gets Leeds swinging with Opera North. I Got Rhythm is a night of classic Stateside songwriting, featuring the best from Cole Porter, Kurt Weill and George Gershwin.
