Donald Trump tweeted a congratulatory message to Princess Eugenie following her royal wedding to Jack Brooksbank on Friday - and people are confused.

Taking to his preferred medium of communication, the president tweeted on Sunday morning: “Princess Eugenie of York was a truly beautiful bride yesterday.

“She has been through so much, and has come out a total winner!”

In addition to getting the date wrong, as the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II actually married two days prior, people are questioning what Mr Trump is referring to regarding his claim that the princess has been “through so much.”

“What has she ‘been through’? Please enlighten us Brits because we have no idea what you’re talking about!” one person responded.

Another said: “Have I missed something? Other than the divorce of her parents, what has she been through?”

The president’s tweet is likely in reference to the bride’s past struggle with scoliosis, which curves the spine and which required her to undergo surgery when she was 12.

Prior to her wedding, the princess appeared on ITV’s This Morning where she discussed the importance of showing off your scars and announced her wedding dress was purposely low in the back so her scar would be visible.

“I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it’s really special to stand up for that,” she said.

Others have responded to the tweet asking the President of the United States to focus on America and the country’s pressing issues, including hurricane relief in Florida.

“Meanwhile there are hundreds of people missing in Florida from a hurricane that you seem to be ignoring, or putting on the back burner for tweets about a princess,” one person tweeted.

Mr Trump’s tweet also came as a surprise to many as he had not congratulated American-born Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following their wedding in May.
