Postboxes painted blue to thank NHS workers on front lines of coronavirus outbreak

The Royal Mail has decorated five postboxes as a way of thanking NHS workers on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak.
The postboxes have been painted blue with the message “Thank You NHS” printed across it.
They are located in four locations, near St Thomas’ Hospital in central London, Trafford General Hospital in Manchester, Royal Edinburgh Hospital, University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and The Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
The Royal Mail has said that the locations were selected to represent the four nations of the UK.
The postboxes are also designed to commemorate the Trafford General Hospital, which is the birthplace of the NHS and was founded by Aneurin “Nye” Bevan in Manchester in July 1948.
There is also one blue postbox that has been designed in celebration of Captain Tom Moore’s 100th birthday, which he celebrated on Thursday.
The Second World War veteran, who served in India and Burma, became an international celebrity after setting out to walk 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS.
Shane O’Riordain, from Royal Mail, said: “We are showing our support and thanks to the many NHS workers across the UK who are working tirelessly to help those affected by the coronavirus crisis.
“The special blue postboxes are a small token of our thanks for the exceptional service NHS workers are providing across all four UK nations.”
O’Riordain added that the Royal Mail is working hard to deliver a “comprehensive service” during the pandemic.
“We understand that the universal postal service provides a lifeline to businesses and communities everywhere during the coronavirus crisis,” he added.
“We are working closely with pharmacy companies and NHS trusts across the UK, and we are delivering many prescriptions and hospital appointments.”
