From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Tuesday 18 August during a family holiday, Pink posted a picture on social media of herself wakesurfing, a water sport where the rider trails behind a motor boat.
The photograph shows the singer striking a strong, steady pose on the board, her left leg in front as she uses her arms to maintain her balance.
In the caption for the image, the 40-year-old stated that she has often questioned why God gave her “thunder thighs”.
“I always wondered why God gave me thunder thighs. It’s cause he knew I’d use them,” she said.
The musician included several hashtags, including #strongismygoal, #throwingbuckets and #somebodysponsormealready.
Several people commented underneath the post, praising Pink for her important message about how she embraces her body.
“Beautiful strong legs so you can tuuuuuuuuuurrrrn up!” wrote fitness trainer Jeanette Jenkins.
“Beauty, strength, talent, compassion, and charm...it’s no wonder we all love you so much,” one fan said, while another remarked: “Thank you for sharing such a simple but inspiring message. Love it!”
In April, it was reported that Pink had tested positive for coronavirus.
In a post shared on Instagram, the singer criticised the US government’s handling of the pandemic, saying it was “an absolute travesty and failure of our government to not make testing more widely accessible”.
Pink and her three-year-old son, Jameson, both recovered after testing positive for the virus.
