From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Marking the unofficial beginning of the holiday season, Oprah Winfrey has revealed her annual curated list of “Favourite Things” - and it is the talk-show host's longest list ever.

The full highly-anticipated gift-guide was unveiled online in O, The Oprah Magazine, and features 107 of the star’s favourite things - from grow-your-own Christmas trees to deluxe hand creams and cosy socks.

For the 22nd year of the beloved tradition, Winfrey included her usual splurge-worthy recommendations as well as a reasonably-priced 50-under-$50 portion - and the list will be sure to inspire.

“We’ve got gifts for just about everybody on your list - for the foodie, for the techie, for the fashionista, for the hostess-with-the-mostest and also for those hard-to-shop-for friends and family members,” Winfrey said in an Amazon video, where some of her 2018 favourite things are available for purchase at Amazon.com/Oprah.

In the under-50 section on Amazon, gifts include items such as $18 truffle-infused hot sauce by Truff, organic cotton matching striped pyjamas for the entire family by Burt’s Bees Baby, and $20 stainless-steel cocktail straws that are both cool and good for the environment.

For those who fall under the “quirky” category, Winfrey has multiple fun recommendations, including a $50 dog spa gift set complete with a personalised dog-friendly terry cloth robe or shearling fingerless gloves by Justin Gregory.

The long list also includes more pricey items, such as a $1,500 Samsung QLED TV, which uses your wall as a screen saver to blend in when it’s not in use, an electric battery-powered bike by Story Bicycles for $1,850, and a $180 6.5 gallon popcorn tin.

Of her 2018 picks, Winfrey said: “I love discovering delectable, cosy, innovative new gifts and revisiting some of my past favourites to find the perfect present for each of the special people in my life, and then sharing these great finds with you.”

And this year, it is easier and more affordable than ever for shoppers to purchase items from the list - as they can shop directly through Amazon Fire TV streaming devices and use coupon codes for select items.

But, as the host reminded her fans: “It’s not just about what you give, but it’s about the spirit in which you give it.”
