Nick Jonas has revealed he plans to teach his future children about “the importance of sex and consent”.

The musician stressed that “the values behind the idea of understanding what sex is, and what it means, are incredibly important.

“When I have children, I’ll make sure they understand the importance of sex, and consent, and all the things that are important.”

Jonas, who married actor Priyanka Chopra in December, and his brothers Joe and Kevin famously wore purity rings as a symbol of chastity when their eponymous band, The Jonas Brothers, rose to stardom in their early teens.

Speaking to The Guardian, the 27-year-old recalled: “What’s discouraging about that chapter of our life is that at 13 or 14 my sex life was being discussed."

“It was very tough to digest it in real time, trying to understand what it was going to mean to me, and what I wanted my choices to be, while having the media speaking about a 13-year-old’s sex life. I don’t know if it would fly in this day and age. Very strange.”

The musician’s comments come after he celebrated his one-year anniversary with Chopra, who he met this time last year.

Recalling the day in an Instagram post underneath a candid photograph of the couple at Cannes Film Festival, Jonas wrote: “One year ago today I went to go see Beauty and the Beast at the Hollywood Bowl with a group of friends.

“One of those friends was the woman that would become my best friend, my confidant, my muse, my beautiful wife. I am so grateful for our journey together so far.”

The singer added that Chopra makes him smile “every day”.

“I am honoured to be your husband,” he concluded, “I love you.”

Chopra also posted a special dedication to her husband on Instagram, revealing that the duo were apart for their anniversary, but that he had surprised her with tickets to see Mariah Carey in concert in London that evening.

“The best husband ever,” the actor wrote. “A #lambily member’s dream came true...Even though he was busy and we were apart, he made sure I celebrated our one year anniversary with my fave. You will always be my baby @nickjonas.”
