News of the weird
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The phalluses, the largest of which is 10 feet long, were brought in last month in an attempt to placate the rain gods and end a six-month drought. Instead, according to many of the townspeople in Sena, they caused four recent fires.
Miami vice: A man wearing only a white apron and black lace panties was shot dead by police after he had allegedly tried to run them over with his pickup truck. The police had arrived after receiving a call about a naked man in the parking lot of a Miami apartment building.
Television spectacular: According to a survey carried out by Bournemouth University, only 8.5 per cent of leading characters appearing on prime- time television are seen wearing glasses. The study puts spectacle wearers in TV drama into six categories: Academic Smoothies, Reliable Bores, Grubby Lens Brigade, Trendy Trainspotters, Curtain Twitchers and Virtuous Victims.
