From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Are you bored of the same old overpriced avocado on sourdough you can get at every brunch spot? Sick to death of generic acai bowls and organic granola Instagram has convinced you to try and love? Ever fancied a breakfast that’s just that bit more… cheeky?

We can relate, as can all the people on Twitter who have suddenly discovered that there is a secret Nando’s breakfast and are living for it.

Yes, you read that right. Nando’s do breakfast and it’s one of the best kept secrets of the chicken-based fast casual dining world.

The menu items launched in 2016 with options including porridge, french toast, buttermilk pancakes, sausage sandwiches, “corny” browns (sweet corn fritters), and – of course – peri-peri chicken.

Unfortunately, as with all things that sound too good to be true, there is a catch: it’s only available in two locations in the UK, Gatwick Airport and Cobham service station.

Because of this, Nando's breakfast offering has remained largely under wraps (and pittas, and burgers, come to that).

So when Twitter user @usxma posted a picture of the breakfast last week, he was inundated with replies from people baffled to find out it is indeed a real thing.

"Looks amazing, didn't even know this was a thing," tweeted @Dan_Moorhouse_, with drooling and shocked-face emojis.

"It it only me that NEVER even knew they did breakfast?!" pondered @elitekid_k, echoing the thoughts of the entire internet.

@_MehreenA was as shocked as the rest of us: "Wait what?! Nando's do breakfast"

Meanwhile others were willing to go to whatever lengths necessary to sample these mystical delights, with users such as @itchyareola_, @LukeT1990 and @EilidhNewton_ pledging to book upcoming flights from Gatwick Airport especially:

Last month, Nando's won Preston's Best Restaurant award, much to the ire of residents who hoped the accolade would go to a local small business as opposed to a chain.

But Cobham cafes needn't worry – we have no reason to believe Nando's will be competing for a "best breakfast" award any time soon.
