From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The more you pay the less you get, at least when it comes to fuel efficiency. All of these cars represent the crème de la crème of the automotive world and the scourge of the tree-hugging world.
It's likely that if you can afford the least fuel-efficient car on the market, the Lamborghini Murcielago (base price: €237,000) you aren't spending too much time worrying about any upcoming rise in fuel prices.
If you get as much pleasure from driving a Toyota Prius as you do a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (base price: €210,000), you probably won't be found in the fast lane too often.
And if Mother Nature means more to you than €366,000, the starting price for a luxurious Maybach 57, your accountant is probably just as pleased.
Also found among the pricier gas guzzlers, the Infiniti EX35 crossover SUV comes in at €25,000.
